Not really, they just like to come with me to the Flower grove. I'm not much of a trainer to be honest.

[Which is why all the wild pokemon at the Flower grove gather around her the moment she steps inside.

The Porygon's dedicated look is hard to ignore now! Kotori looks in it's direction with cautious curiosity. While she heard about their existence this would be her first time seeing a real Porygon, too.]

[Yuuna can't help but notice what Porygon's doing and she looks from the girl to the crystalline bird with interest. He usually only reacted this way around Enlightened and Pokemon, thanks to his Download ability. So...it stood to reason she was probably Enlightened in some way.]

You come out here but aren't a trainer? Well, you've had to have done a bit, or you're one of those Enlightened that can talk to Pokemon. There are aggressive ones here, too, after all.

[See: The antagonistic Jigglypuff. Maybe one day, Yuuna will convince her to bond, but today wasn't that day. Her Hitmonchan has a bruise to show for the attempt, too. Not that Yuuna'd really wanted to hurt the puffball.]

['Enlightened', eh? she knows the term well and the fact that she is one of them but this may be the very first time she hears somebody with Union mention it. There are so many of them around that nowadays it feels normal to assume most people are.]

A bit of both. I train my pokemon a bit it's just that I'm not really good at it... yet I am an Enlightened like you say. I'm a Swablu shifter.

[That Jigglypuff would break Kotori's heart if she met it. So cute and so unfriendly.]

[The pokemon is not stopping and it's beginning to make her nervous.]

[Yuuna swats Porygon's head a bit interrupting it's Download.]

That explains Renraku then. It Downloads data on every Pokemon or Enlightened it meets. I think it's wired to do that. And since you're a Pokemon, that's why. It's harmless, it just tells it a bit about how you, well...fight.

[Shrugging, she picks up her crystal bird.]

Not that I'm going to let it attack or anything. It...well, it's actually kind of passive, aside from that. goes with being a machine I guess.

[Fight? Her? that should have been a short download but then again she does have lots of moves now. This pokepuff chef is a respectable Swablu by now.

All said the concept of the Porygon automatically registering information about Pokemon and Enlightened without depending on any outside sources or databases is very intriguing. Kotori nods at her explanation and steps closer. Her right hand slowly reaches for Renraku.]

But... is he truly a machine? He is pointy but doesn't seem that mechanic.

[Renraku beeps out a mechanical series of sounds, chirps and whistles mostly, but it doesn’t move. She’s no real threat, that much is obvious. A threat would’ve gotten a beam of some sort to the face.]

It is. I’m not sure it even has a gender, but it’s definitely a machine. It has an opening for discs, like in the days before the war. And it claims to be one, so I see no reason to question that much.

[An opening for disks? while the brunette isn't particularly interested in technology (she struggled a lot with the Warp band) the concept of Porygon being complete machine with even those old fashioned details if truly interesting. She lets out an 'oooh!' sound, open like a book.]

[Yuuna, for all her talents, is hardly an expert with machines or technology either. Nor is she half the Pokepuff chef as the brunette, as Politoed will tell her later. Renraku, though, beeps and nods it's head.]

It's surprisingly affectionate for a machine. Though, hey, you're a shifter, right? You can talk to Pokemon, yeah?

[Cooking can be learned, do not despair! Or, in this case, do not bully a too honest Politoed.]

[With warm hands Kotori proceeds to pet the friendly Porygon's head, that cold surface expected from a machine. The contact is certainly different from any other pokemon she has ever touched yet that by itself makes this an special occasion.]

Mh? Yes, I can talk to pokemon.

[Kotori will find that as she touches Porygon, it warms up. Renraku beeps and whirs.]

Could I ask you to translate a couple questions for me? I feel like there's a few things I need to ask, and...well...y'know...I can't.

[ The fact that Renraku warms up under her touch is the little push the girl needed to let her careful contact become a more eager petting just like she would do to any pokemon. It's enjoying it so there is no need to hold back, Kotori wouldn't harm it in any case.

The brunette girl's smile widens at Yuuna's request and she nods eagerly. Being able to help others makes her happy, small as it is. ]

[Renraku clicks again, moving it's head back and forth, nuzzling like any other Pokemon. The fact that it, unbeknownst to either of them, is a man-made life form doesn't seem to change the fact that it likes attention and companionship as much as any other Pokemon. Yuuna reaches down and scritches it's back too.]

I guess the first thing I'd like to know is if it has a gender, or a gender preference? I don't want to call it an it...that sounds a little derogatory.

[ Isn't it nice, Renraku? you are getting lots of love today.
Kotori nods at Yuuna's preference, sharing her opinion on it being a bit belittling, and directs her words towards the pokemon. ]

Renraku, this may be a weird question but do you prefer being called 'she' or 'he'?

[ An advantage of being an enlightened is that she doesn't need to shift to communicate with it. ]

[It totally agrees. Attention is the best.]

[The Pokemon speaks in a drone, not devoid of inflection, but not exactly natural.]

But if I must have a gender, it would be male. The program running my core functions is named for a male human.

[ An human question, eh? that's a very honest way to put it. Maybe Yuuna asked it many times but language barriers stopped the reply from being understood. ]

I see, I see. It's not really necessary for you to have a gender but your trainer feels is wrong to call you 'it'. You are a pokemon before a machine in our, well, human eyes.

[ But if he really prefers to be called 'it' she'll communicate such to Yuuna all the same. ]

[Lying, if she asked it, would be a human thing as well.]

Referring to me as a He is perfectly acceptable, Kotori Minami. It is the most appropriate terminology, and while I lack a true gender, it is the core of my persona.

[ Maybe Kotori is more Swablu than human because when it comes to lying it's more of a challenge than a natural skill. ]

Understood! I'll let Yuuna know. Ah, and 'Kotori' alone is fine, really.

[ Have some extra petting for being honest. ]

Renraku says that he'd prefer to be treated as male! His core personality was programmed like that.

[Porygon's head bobs, acknowledging that he appreciates her asking.]

I guess the next thing, he keeps asking about this Upgrade software. But the guy I talked to about him before was kinda unsure what he meant. What is it? Does Renraku know?

It's better to make sure about these matters, yes.

[ And the Porygon seems to prefer being asked too so this path keeps everyone happy. At Yuuna's next request Kotori's eyes widen a bit in curiosity, intrigued by this mystery too. ]

Renraku, what do you know about that 'Upgrade software'? do you know where it is?

It is a disc, to put into my disc drive. I am not sure where to locate one, however. But it should say Porygon Up-Grade on it.

[He really sounds a little confused by it himself.]

[ Indeed, his confused tone says that he only knows and would rather not press him uselessly for more information on the disk and it's location however there is something she can't help but inquire on our of sheer curiosity. ]
